Green Hydrogen – A Fuel of the Future

Since 2014, Zhongtong Bus has been involving in the development of hydrogen fuel cell. After years of effort, hydrogen fuell cell bus covered all models of 8-12m buses in 2016, which operated in the cities around China. Accounting for a 48.59% share in the market, 742 electric buses were sold in 2018, with industry total sales of 1527. In 2019, the sales volume of the electric buses is 682, with industry total sales of 3018, occupying market share of 22.8%. The market share maintained the first place for two years. Zhongtong hydrogen-powered vehicles realized the largest demonstration application in the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle market in China. During the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, a total of 40 12m hydrogen fuel cell buses of a new generation were put into operation.

R&D Capabilities on Hydrogen Fuel Cell

Zhongtong Bus built a well-equipped R&D Center for hydrogen fuel cell. The R&D team boasts more than 150 research staff, among which there are more than 60 with Master's degree, and 3 with PhD. Our research staff participated in dozens of national and provincial level hydrogen programmes. Our R&D achievements on hydrogen technologies were demonstrated by more than 50 national invention patents. After years of efforts on R&D, we have mastered the core technologies including vehicle control software and system integration, optimized control strategy for energy consumption, cold start at low temperatures, fuel cell thermal management, and safety control in hydrogen technologies. In addition, Zhongtong Bus established a complete range of performance evaluation system and standards of the hydrogen vehicles, enabling them to operate with high reliability, safety, and adaptation to the climate change while delivering zero emissions to the environment.
